"Hello!?" i screamed without knowingly.
"Hey! it's tobias. so is the timing now more optimal for a drink?"
Tobias POV
lesson's over and i was on my way to the carpark. someone was walking ahead of me. looking at his very familiar walking posture i knew it was Manfred. Manfred and i have quite a history. We are best mates ever since university. he was an oversea student from Singapore but we got acquainted quickly. Manfred is those layback, what goes around comes around guy that doesn't bother with fame and attention. brilliant guy but have tons of bad habit i would say. now that i have moved to Singapore to teach, he offered me a room under his roof. it's not that i don't have the money to rent a room but because Manfred thought we could look out for each other like old times. we have many in common, like we both love beer, football, laksa, being single but we are definitely not gay. hurry i haste myself towards him.
"Manfred!" i gave it a yell
"hey mate! so early today?" he acknowledged
"yeah. i end it early on purpose." i always do that when i find my mood to teach was gone, sometimes i'll just skip a few topics.
"ah-ha! having mood swing again? want a smoke?" he teased and offered me his cigarette pack.
"i'll pass."
"just trying to be nice. hey, yesterday night you were sleep talking again," he light up a cigarette.
"oh really? so what did i did this time? sung in chinese?" i joked.
"no. you called someone. it was real late," he puffed smokes.
"i called someone?! don't crap."
"seriously dude, your parasomnia is getting worse. you used to just talk or sing but now you can walk, read and call. check your call history if you don't believe me. should be one of your students. you were asking economics questions." he puffed out more smokes, now with circular shapes.
i pulled out my phone and checked. i really did called someone. just that i don't know who. panicked, i yanked out the class attendance with students' contact from my bag to do a matching. Manfred was telling the truth. it really was one of my student.
"any luck?" he asked
"you were right. it's one of my student, a girl."
"wanna know what's the last thing you told her?" he gave me a devilish smile.
"oh this better be good.."
"you said you gonna call her back for a drink," now he's puffing out smokes with triangular shape.
"shit," i cursed.
"relax mate, you can just forget about it. or maybe. you should call her back for the drink! clear things up. kids are open minded these days. i have students who smoke with me. they taught me these tricks. watch" he puffed out a chain of circular shape smoke.
"so that's where you learned all these smoke patterns. not bad huh." i praised with a smile.
"it's always good to have some tricks up your sleeves. nothing too difficult." he smirked
"right. i'm going to call her up. like you said. clear this up. and you know what. i think i'm starting to recall what i said last night."
"great! looks like someone has made up his mind. so just chill and have fun! you haven't been out with girls for some time. HEY! maybe that's the reason why your parasomnia is getting worst!" he teased again
"Oi! not funny okay," but in a way it was and we both laugh.
"right i'll be home marking mock papers. the admin people are chasing me ass off. better get going. don't forget our laksa challange this weekend!" after said so he threw his cigarette butt away
"you're on mate!" then we did those buddy hand shake we learned from the malay students before we part.
next thing next i reached for my phone and make the call. it only rang once.
"Hello!?" a female voice screamed through the phone.
"Hey! it's tobias. so is the timing now more optimal for a drink?"
to be or not to be continued
